“Give’em flowers while they’re living!”

May 5, 2008

Sounds strange? well let me give you something to chew on for a while, and it may even change your life.

A few years ago, a close friend of mine died without me ever telling him how much he really meant to me. Those of you who know me, I’m sure you know who I’m talking about. Richard Albury was his name. A dear friend and a respected man in our church and the community. Richard had heart trouble from a young man, and the last few years of his life on earth, it only got worse. We used to play in a band together in church, just enjoying life, if there ever was a joke told, he was laughing the hardest. A good ol’ fun guy to be around. Well my life back on the Island of Spanish Wells, I was a fisherman and we used to go out for around 4-5 weeks at a time away from home. It was announced at church that Richard was going over to Miami to get some test run on his heart. Well, this wasn’t unusual because of his condition with his heart. I was supposed to go fishing in 2 days,so I told my buddy Richard that I would stop by the next morning to chat a while. Well I never did go by, and we went away fishing on schedule. We got a call while out to sea, that Richard had another heart attack, and was dead. My first reaction was” that can’t be true, he looked so good when we left home, how could he be dead?” My heart was broken.Even tho we know that death is a part of life. And one appointment we all gonna make, what hurt me the most was the fact that I had never told Richard how much I loved him,and how much I respected him. Going to his grave site and crying, while putting flowers on the sand, wouldn’t do any good, because he couldn’t hear me. I made a promise to myself then, never to wait till someone dies to say I love you. This same principle could be applied to employers. Some employers wait until a good worker threatens to leave, than they say” oh no, don’t go , I’ll raise your wages!” Well, avoid that by paying people what they worth in the beginning! So I hope this story hit home today. Mothers,Fathers sons and daughters, don’t let a day go by without telling each other how much you love them. Life is but a vapor, and then its gone. Take advantage of the air you breathe, and make your words count. If some has done something good for you, tell’em now while you still can, don’t wait until sand covers up there ears.

dinosdime for the day : “Give’em flowers while there living!”
